Felix Matt
PhD. Candidate, University of Oslo, Department of Geoscience
Felix Nikolaus Matt took a master degree in meteorology from Hamburg University before coming to the University of Oslo to study hydrology. During his master degree he had the opportunity to work in the Arctic for scientific exchange and cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) and to take part in the ERASMUS program between Hamburg and the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS). During his master's work, Felix has developed an original model for the formation of snow ice; a type of ice that forms when the surface of snow-laden sea-ice is suppressed underneath the water level. As such he was a clear an obvious candidate to work with furthering snowpack modeling, but within HyCAMP in the context of hydrologic modeling. Felix's doctoral work has been central to HyCAMP, and he has made significant contributions both to basic research through the development of new algorithms, as well as toward the modeling framework, Shyft, that was used as a part of his studies. His excellence was recognized by Statkraft, where Felix will be continuing his work following the defense of his degree at UiO.
